WIENER NEUSTADT (and environs) COMMUNITY

First anniversary of regular Holy Mass for our Wiener Neustadt community,
26 January 2014

Time has flown by quickly, it is now almost exactly one year since it has been possible to have Holy Mass celebrated regularly for Filipinos and their families living in Wiener Neustadt and environs. Not only do we have the support of the Chaplaincy in providing a priest for our regular masses on the 4th Sunday of the month, but we are also fortunate that the choirs of the Chaplaincy take turns in providing the music for our services. We have a Facebook account through which we make community announcements, we have our own lectors and sacristans, and the team that organizes agape after each service works like clockwork. We continue to have the support of members of the Legion of Mary, and we are almost ready to start our own Praesidium. So much has happened in one year, and we are grateful to God for all these blessings. We pray for His continued guidance through Father Ely, Father Bong and Father Dongdong. May we continue to grow in faith.

It was snowing on this day (the first time this winter) so it was not possible for everyone to come, but here we are!

Our 2013 Christmas celebration

It seems that we had only just started organizing masses for our community, gaining insight into the liturgical year, learning about the tasks of lay ministers in preparing the altar and acting as lectors, coordinating the myriad details for offering agape after the mass and participating in various liturgical services & social activities at Maria vom Berge Karmel ... and suddenly 12 months had gone by! So on December 15, our families and friends gathered at the Herzog Robert von Parma Saal in Schwarzau am Steinfeld to celebrate Christmas with Holy Mass, a Filipino buffet lunch, gift-giving, singing, dancing and merry-making. We were joined by members of the Legion of Mary (who have been supporting us throughout the year), the CFC FFL choir, and representatives of the Infantakreis Wiener Neustadt.

Thank you to everyone who contributed time, effort, talents, food, good cheer and everything else that was needed to make it one happy occasion that we will remember throughout the New Year. We look forward to growing as a community.

Our first Community Mass, 27 January 2013

The apostolate work of our Legion of Mary bore fruit today in the form of the first Holy Mass for our kababayans living in Wiener Neustadt and environs. Father Ely celebrated the mass in the (heated) chapel of the St. Jacob's church of the Capuchin monks, and we were happy to count about 40 local parishioners. In his homily, Father Ely enjoined the congregation to read and live the bible, and reminded that prayer is 99% listening and only 1% talking. Mara Seger and her team prepared and served agape in the Franziskussaal after the mass. Starting in February 2013, Holy Mass will be said every 4th Sunday of the month at 14h for our kababayans. Thank you, Mama Mary, for making this possible!
